Blame China, Europe and the Olympics for America’s Blowout Deficit

The U.S. trade deficit, including goods and services, climbed 30% on a year earlier in February to reach $58 billion on a seasonally adjusted basis. That was the highest since October 2008 and above economists’ expectations. The expansion was partly due to a $1 billion rise in intellectual property imports linked to the Olympic winter games. An 18% rise in the goods deficit was driven predominantly by a 27% surge in the balance with China.
