Iran, Pakistan Help Take Up China’s Slack in America’s Soybean Exports

Press reports suggest U.S. soybean exports are being diverted via third countries to reduce exposure to 25% duties applied by China. U.S. exports of soybeans climbed 41.8% in the three months to August 31 vs. a year earlier despite a 74.4% slump in shipments to China. China’s share of the total fell to 5.8% from 48.2% a year earlier. Part of the growth reflects trade negotiation-related increases in shipments to the EU which rose to 20.4% of the total from 8.8%.
