Drugs, tractors slow the summer slide in U.S. imports

U.S. seaborne imports continued to decline in June with a 7.3% slide in total shipments and an 8.6% drop in containerized imports. The downturn represents a slower rate of decline than that seen in May when containerized imports fell by 19.6%, though the pattern of decline is similar. Shipments from China fell by 1.7% in June while those from Asia ex-China dropped 13.9% due to a slump in arrivals from India and Japan.
